Studio Formafantasma designed a collection of three rugs for Nodus, inspired by the work of 19th century ornithologist Jan James Audubon, who was scientifically categorizing birds. On the final designs instead of minuscule and geometrized flowers, three giant birds seem to be trapped in the moment of flying on the surface of the rugs.
The rugs are composed as out of scale domestic vests in wool and finished with oak wood buttons, referring to the particularity of needlepoint technique that is used both in tapestry and to embroider clothes, especially to the traditional Portuguese needlepoint rug production of Arraiolos.
With migration Studio Formafantasma seems to suggest a new type of romanticism, more wild and liberating, expressing one of the most ancient of human desires: to migrate towards new and unknown places, maybe just laying down on beautifully embroidered feathers.
